Two pieces of hand pierced copper were fumed with ammonia to produce this blue/green patina. This involves rubbing the wet metal with salt crystals and storing in an airtight container for up to 48 hours. To preserve the patina, the earrings were given two coats of hypoallergenic Protectaclear.

They measure 4½ inches (114 mm) across the longest diagonal, and hang from my handmade silver earwires.

These pictures were taken in bright sunlight. The colours are true but, as the pictures are close ups, the contrasts appear exaggerated.

Formed from hand pierced copper sheet, shaped and curved to frame the face. The middle sections have been textured, and the edges polished and given a trailing design. The overall effect is a satiny sheen with polished highlights. This shape, where two curves are at right angles to each other, is referred to as anticlastic.

The drop is 2½ inches (64 mm) and the earrings are 14mm at the widest point.

The copper has been dipped in Protectaclear which helps protect against tarnishing, scratching and skin reactions. Unlike a varnish, it does not detract from the beauty of the metal. Simply wash with warm, soapy water.
